天和元年（1681年）、深谷城内の三社天王（弁財天・大黒天・牛頭天王）を現在地に移して八坂神社と改称したことを起源とし、「八坂まつり」として三百有余年の歴史を誇る。現在の「深谷まつり」として引き継がれ、市民の夏の祭典として根付いている。
