1992年（平成4年）に第1回が開催。もともと東林間自治会が主催する盆踊りが行われていたが、街の開発で空き地がなくなり盆踊りの場所を失ったことから、道路でできる祭りとして阿波踊りが選ばれた。以来、東林間駅前のシャンテ通りを舞台に毎年8月第1土・日曜日に開催。2024年は第33回、2025年は第34回として開催され、約3,000人の踊り子が参加する神奈川県有数の阿波踊りイベントに成長した。2026年は第35回を迎える。
